- Old___SlowExplorerI found a new inverter gen today, the Champion 1000i. The first choice has been the Yamaha 1000i, however I might be temped @ $429.

There is a limit to how high a charge rate your battery bank can take without damaging the batteries. A lot of the output from a generator is going to be wasted in many situations.
What is good about solar is that it provides a charge output level that is better matched to the charge acceptance rates of deep cycle batteries.
Many techs express this same opinion. One reason it is/was my objective to go with the slower chargers and keep the AC draw on a small inverter to the minimum. I have no experience with the 1000i inverters. So the question has been, at what output draw for the 1000i will keep it the most silent. Say 400w?
I would rather run the inverter more hours at the most silent rate than charge fast and ferrous with a screaming gen. I feel with the info' coming down the pike (thread), I'll find the answer and go from there. Thanks for all the help thus far.

Consider an extended run fuel tank for the Honda. - HiTechExplorerVery true. Takes much longer but will work. Might need to be careful to get each 12v set to an even charge to the others.
Jim - BFL13Explorer IIA friend has a 36v golf cart with six 6v batts. I used my 12v battery charger to charge individual 6v pairs. No need to undo the wires in the golf cart, just clamp on to one pair at a time.

You could charge with your 12v charger and move it down the line as they get charged.
So far so good until we get to the 48v Club Car. Need the 2000i here.
How many amps is the club car charger output?
Could get a smaller rating to be powered by the 1000.
48v smart charger 3 amps $115
Awesome forum- Tech issues. World beater.
The link left above was the answer to my need to select the 1000i or the 2000i. if you did the clicky it shows the low input 3a charger for the Club Car 48v 6x8 battery bank. One clearly can use the 1000i Inverter, to cover all my needs for charging. Why didn't I do more searching? Just Old and Slow.
Now just need to add more silence to the 1000i
Thanks Old & Slow wrote:

Yes, I do have some knowledge of building gen boxes for the ol' 'Yellow and Black' C46540 (it's now in the genhouse) running great when it's cranked. I built a box for it that reduced the noise. I find it hard doing what I like in the shop these days.
When the inverters became the talk of the RV world, I said, okay, time to go with the flow. Now having three different battery needs, the choice seems to be the 1000i or the 2000i. The mention I made of 400w input max for the charger was to keep the inverter's output at that level, so the noise would be at the lowest possible. I have one charger that can be set for 4a DC output for 12v batts. One charger for the scooter only requires 1.8a input. So far so good until we get to the 48v Club Car. Need the 2000i here.
Right now I'm thinking, the 1000i would be a good choice to carry with the e/scooter. Or like has bee said, just carry a extra batt. No noise to worry about.
Good to see all posts with different ideas. Hey, I don't count the wind mill out. That would be fun to see. Old man with his wind mill on a e/scooter.:B
One of our old posters built a beautiful box for the Honda 1000i and no extra fan was needed. The last time he updated the info' on that project, he noted over 500 hours running in the box with no problems. I think it could be used 24/7 in any congested area. Don't know if there is enough left in the tank for any shop time.
Floyd - 2oldmanExplorer III've forgotten the question.
