Brass check valve have less noise and usually have a larger orifice than a plastic valve. the Noise is the resonance of the water rushing around the smaller orifice that is part of the spring loaded check valve. I have not really heard of this problem in years. Years ago, California built RV's, California Plumbing code required check valves on both the Input and Output of the water heater and we used to get that noise on those because of having 2 small restrictions instead of the normal 1 on the Input side. California modified that part of their Plumbing code years ago and now only requires the check valve on the Input side. Go to a brass check valve. Doug
