Without a code anything suggested is just a guess. And I have seen CELs that go away on their own and not store a code. Hopefully it will do it again for your mechanic and he can identify what is going on. Plugs are due at 100k, so it's possible you have one plug that is EOL. It's also possible that you have a bad coil pack.
You might want to download the Torque app and get a Bluetooth OBDII reader. Drive it for a few days and capture the codes when the CEL is still on.
