It is true that all tires sold in the US market have to meet the NHTSA/DOT standards. It is also true that the standards for P/LT tires differ from ST tires.
:h
I made that statement because your post appeared to me to suggest they all had to meet the same standards.

Naturally...and (design) standards for motorcycle tires differ, too. Each tire type is for a different purpose, thus the different standards. I will say, though, that it seems odd that LT tires, though both by design/use they closely resemble P tires, are NOT subject to the UTQG system...just like ST's.
Agreed

What do you mean by this? What specific standard are you talking about?

Does anyone have anything to say about the document posted by the O.P., which has to do with t'other Big Myth, that of the "China Bomb"? It's certainly most interesting to read about the duplication/similarities of processes, etc.
A word of warning, though: There are words with more than one syllable in that document so it may not be for everyone...:C
To me a "China Bomb" specifically refers to a ST style tire. Considering that document specifically addresses P and LT tires it is worthless as a source, positive or negative, regarding ST tires. It does assuage some concerns regarding LT Chinese tires. I, like many others, purchase them when budgetary concerns are a factor.
