clutch kit

l am fixing to replace my cluch on my 1995 f350 crew cab 2 wheel drive. l was told south bends is the way l should go. ater looking them up theirs all kinds from 575.00 to 1200.00. l pull a 11000 lbs camper 10 times a year some in the mountains. they also have the solid fly wheel and a fly wheel with springs which should l get. Thanks
  • I've had good luck with valair clutches as well as South bend. Valair are less expensive and arguably as good in some cases.

I like the look of the HD Organic.

The yellowish thing I believe is the pilot bearing. The larger is the Release bearing AKA thowout bearing.

That's the one I had installed.
It's a fantastic clutch that's capable of something like 900 Lb/Ft and it feels almost like a Honda. Very light pedal and gentle engagement.

Flywheel usually does not need replaced. Maybe resurfaced.

But I think you are talking about the disk with friction material. You want the springs or the clutch will be jerky and harsh. ...........

Unless his truck still has the OEM dual-mass clutch. When those get replaced, the clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel are all replaced as a set. I'd recommend NOT getting another dual-mass clutch if that's what you're trying to decide. If your truck still has a dual mass clutch, it WILL need a new flywheel this time, but future clutch replacements will not.

I've been told that South Bend is a good brand, but from personal experience I'd say so is Sachs. Sachs is the clutch division of ZF, the German company that made your tranny. The best clutch I put in my '95 F350 was one of theirs. I'd also tried LUK and Valeo, and didn't like the way either one felt. They both ended up being replaced because of problems with the throw out bearing (no, I didn't ride the clutch). The Valeo bearing started howling in reverse, and the LUK bearing actually exploded without warning when I was downshifting while getting off the highway.

...and a new Pilot Bearing. Anything else inside that Bellhousing. You don't want to be going back in any time sooner than needed.

Let them know this is a daily driver street vehicle.

Friction material should be OEM style with what looks like cord or string going through it.

Don't get all into the dual disks or ceramic friction material.
Get new new pressure plate and release bearing.
  • Best thing to do is call them. They will ask what your power level is and several others questions.
They are good people and will not over-sell you.
