Can I drink the two liters of Cola first and then put it down the toilet afterward?
Does this work with beer too?
"No dear, I haven't had too many brewskies. I'm just loading up to clean out the black tank." :)
For those of us of a certain age, back in the day we thought that Coca Cola poured on corroded battery terminals would remove that corrosion in a jiffy. It was further believed that Pepsi Cola and RC Cola would not work.
Your post has me envisioning a guy standing astride a battery with corroded terminals and a stream of recycled Coca Cola raining down - while sparks and lightning flashes travel upward.
Ouch! - Dusty_RExplorerI've had two Itascas and both of them have the bathroom sinks dump into the black tank.

I can see someones mods already. There going to run a hose from the kitchen sink to the black tank so all they have to do is turn a valve to get there dish water to flow into the black tank.
Hmmm. Maybe I'll just water the trees:B - MuddydogsExplorer

The silliness of cleaning and freshening a waste tank is that it is only effective until the next use. If you intend to never use it again, freshen away.
Those of us that have indoor storage might not want a pile of stuff inside the building. - beemerphile1Explorer

Why "clean and freshen" a waste tank, are you planning on using it for something other than waste? At least it won't do any harm other than wasting your money.
Folks don't give a second thought to the drain lines in their homes but will OCD on an RV waste 'HOLDING' tank.
Just fill it, dump it when FULL, a little flush then add some water back in so tank stays wet.
Repeat ......
OK you wise guys--Maybe some of you have lost your sense of smell (I have slightly) but opening the toilet trap to clean the gasket (when it won't hold water) I notice the smell. In our houses, you don't have a "holding tank" under the toilet, hence no smell. I've heard the smell can be pretty rank if left untreated other than regular chemicals used. My guess is just flushing the toilet could let some of that rank smell up in the rig.
Agree here! Many times, pushing that peddle and the odor that come up can be awful! Might only be for a few seconds, but that's enough to stink up the entire camper.
That's why dumping dish water down the toilet helps. Actually, any household cleaning items, laundry soap, dish washing soap, water softener, bleach, petty much anything used for laundry or washing dishes will help keep odors in the tank at bay.
We don't use RV chemicals at all any more. And I do rinse the tank pretty well after each outing. Due Diligence with cleaning products we use every day goes a long way.

Because of this we are not allowed to use any chemicals in our waste tanks. We set here for the winter without using chemicals and never have a problem. We dump our black tank every 3 or 4 days.
Dusty - 3_tonsExplorer IIIThey say soda is not good for you anyway, so why not pour in down the toilet ?? Great Idea!!
