coleman heater isues

i have an older 33 ft 1981 winnebago with a coleman heater mod#4334
the heater turns on starts heating about 3 minutes then shuts off
i took the heater assembly out blew all the dust and debris out of it cleaned the jet and wire brushed the burner and it still does the same .. runs 3 min and shuts off... i by bypassed the thermo disc sensor on the front and it started running again but i didnt want to leave it bypassed.... does anyone have a parts break down for this unit??? or know where i can buy parts for this???
also there is another heat type switch on the side with 4 wires should i replace them both???
i know its old but its all i can afford right now...
thanks
dennis
  • thanks!!! i put the heater back in but didn't get the numbers off the other sensor....i should know changing too many things at once could cause more problems
    then i already have...lol
  • I would not change the switch at this time. Changing too many things at one time, may not tell you what the problem is.
Write down the information off the switch to have it available or buy the switch and do not install it right now.
  • thanks for the help guys !!!!!
    i got one ordered
still wondering if i should have replaced both of the switches?
  • Opens at about 220 degrees and closes around 180, 40 degree temperature change.
    L220-40 Limit switch
I would give your water heater a good cleaning. It maybe beneficial to buy a set off thermostat/eco cut outs. Make sure you clean the burner tube and LP orifice good. Soak the orifice in alcohol, then blow out by mouth.
Check the ground connection on the gas valve.
Get a small tube of electrical grease. Coat the connection on the circuit board and the ground connection.
  • also the water heater turns on when you flip the switch on and it makes hot water but its like it only heats once... after it heats up it turns off and wont reheat the water until you turn the switch off then back on again
should i start a new post for this question??
  • so... should i replace both switches??? the limit switch is a L220-40
i figured the 220 was degrees but what does the 40 mean??
  • Yeah, Keystone automotive bought NTP and Stagparkway. I'm still waiting for the chips to fall.
  • This Bing search shows a parts list from NTP Distribution. It may help finding parts. NTP is now owned by someone else.
    Chris:
    do you know new owner?
    Bing/ NTP search
  • The one that shuts it off is a limit switch- it should have markings on it for temperature (like L150 or L200)- a good appliance place might be able to find a substitue. The other switch is a fan switch- it keeps the blower running to blow off the heat after the burner shuts off. It will be marked the same way- with an F- like F100 or F120.
I show p/n 43243591 for the limit switch, and cannot find a part number for the fan switch.
