Coleman Mach digital and power outage

I was all set to change the original Coleman Mach analog thermostat to the CM digital one when a thought popped up. The TT is left for months at a time at a leased lot. In the winter I leave heat on and summer I leave AC on. However, it is not unusual for the power to go off at the park during heavy/bad storms. The original therm is not bothered and just picks up after the power comes back on. But what about the digital? I tried getting an answer from CW but they couldn't/didn't know. The owners manual doesn't address the issue. Your thoughts are most welcome.

  • I called excel directly today and spoke to a really nice guy. He said that if power fails while set to AC therm will default to 72 degrees. But if set to heat it will do nothing. When I said that I would be concerned if the heat went off he asked if the 12v system wouldn't power the therm and the heat. This seems to make sense, right? If 120v fails is the switch to 12v (converter switch to batt) that fast?
  • Jd, I'll have to get the model number for you. I did download the owners manual and it doesn't reference the issue. I emailed Rvamerica last night (they sell the therm) and will post their reply when it comes.

We replaced Analog in our house with a LuxPro sold by an air conditioning/heating parts place. It uses two AA batts and those will "save" the settings in a power outage. If there are no batts or they are dead, the LuxPro will continue to run the system (heat pump in our case) with Default Temps. Chances are those will be warmer or cooler than what you might want for storage. In the RV, we have that $20 Hunter that many of us here have used. It MUST have batts to control the system (furnace only in our case), so I guess the system wouldn't run at all if batts were missing or dead.
Can you download the Manual for the 'stat you are considering?
  • Down, I know members have had success with the hunters but my OCD will never let me rest if I use something else. I'm not sure I'm smart enough to not put red to red, yellow to yellow, etc!
  • How about a Hunter digital or similar..? runs on it's own batts..
If I remember, mine has a couple of AA's
