compact fridge

Does anyone know what size inverter i will need to power a residential/compact refrigerator with the following specs? FYI,it is a 4.5cu ft. Thanks for the help.

Wattage (Last 1/3 of cycle) 55 to 73
Amps (Running) 0.75 to 1.0
Base Voltage 115V (127V max)
  • our apt sized residential uses roughly 90~100w
    BUT
the start surge is 900w, that is compressor start up

thats the thing about motors, especially induction motors like compressors or circular saws

its not the running amps/watts, its that huge start surge
  • 73 watts/12 volts =~ 6 amps. At 50% duty cycle that's 3 amps per hour.
Not trying to be snippy, that's 3 amp-hours per hour.
  • I once tried to run a fridge about that size off an inverter. By the running wattage my Samlex 300 watt sine wave inverter should have run it easily but it wouldn't start it. My 1,000 watt MSW inverter would start and run it so that's what I used. I don't know if something smaller would have worked or not.

While I can't begin to claim to know your answer. However. My question is. Isn't the Refer going to kill your battery pretty quick??

Hopefully no as I have 2 group 31 batteries and 170 watts of solar.
Generator back up? Otherwise you may need to double the ratings.
BFL13 just had a thread on this.

A 300 watt pure sine wave unit may work well.

Thanks for the comeback Don. Could you recommend a 4 or 4.5 cu ft compact fridge?

  • As a follow up, I am not sure I gave enough info to get an answer but that is all the info available from the mfg??.
