Compact water hose

I agree I never hookup only top off, 90% of the time the three foot hose will connect the water spigot to the van.

Hmm. I should have elaborated. I am a member of the "Touring" clan of B-vanners, not the "camping" clan. This means that I virtually never do a city water hookup. I agree that these lightweight hoses would be a poor choice for that use. I only use the flat hose on the rare occasions when I can't get close enough to a fill-up facility. After I use it, I always dry it thoroughly. In this mode, it has lasted for 8 years and is still good as new.

If you are going to use it every trip, I agree that you should stick with a conventional hose.

BTW: the problem with those "seen on TV" hoses apparently had to do with the fixtures on the ends being hopelessly fragile. They are now claiming to have greatly improved them. I have no idea whether they are now acceptable--just reporting.

I've been using a spiral fresh water hose that i found at a boating supply store. Doesn't take up much room, and I've had it for about a year without any problems. Looks to be sturdier than the "expandable" products. Don't recall the brand.

The hoses on TV are not drinking water safe. There is no mention of it so I contacted one of the distributes and was told no, don't use it for drinking water.

The flat white hose that flattens out is drinking water safe and is sold for RVs. We have one just like that for the garden and it works but it does have to be completely taken off the reel to use and that got to be a pain unrolling and rolling back - but in a Class B RV this would save a lot of room. They are not cheap.

Carry a spare because the flat hoses can fail without warning.

I have a few x-hose pro hoses. I've had one blow out and another that looks like it's about to.

The fittings on these are fine - they are a nice brass. The hose itself is a rubber/eurathene. I'm not so sure that it isn't OK for potable. I think the problem with these is that they can't be subjected to freezing weather. I think that compromises them, and makes them blow out afterwards.

Just remember that whatever hose you use, make sure it is rated safe for drinking water use. (if you care about that kind of thing).
The expando X hoses aren't.
