I called Norcold today and was told Sawafugi. They said nothing about Danfoss.
I do not think the difference is all that big between Sawafugi and Danfoss. Performance of both systems is just about equal, Do not know about reliability, but from what I see it's six/half dozen.
What have you "seen" that validates that claim? You really shouldn't shoot from the hip with blanket statements like that unless you have the background to validate it. The difference is like night and day. If by performance, you are referring to getting the box cold, then yes they are similar. Every properly working refrigerator will cool the enclosure. There the similarity ends. After the advent of R134a Norcold came out with a couple of "field fixes" trying to get the reliability up and it never did happen. I've replaced probably 3 Danfoss compressors in 15 years and probably a couple of hundred cooling units where the Sawafugi compressor failed. At this point in time Norcold only makes one refrigerator using the Sawafugi compressor, everything else has Danfoss in it. I don't know if there are any RV/Marine refrigeration manufacturers using anything but Danfoss. If there are, I'm not aware of any nor am I going to get into an argument with someone who is invariably going to say they know of one. It just doesn't matter if there is one because I'm not a dealer for them. My statements are based on being a Norcold servicing dealer for the last 15 years. What say you?
