Short of trying to go back and tabulate numbers from every repair invoice, which I'm not going to do, the only validation of my credentials and comments needed is that I have been an air conditioning and refrigeration servicing dealer in the marine industry since 1997, and my comments are based on knowledge, observations, and experience gained during that period and are not simply remarks read on the Internet and parroted for the sake of making a post.
My primary product line for the most part has been Dometic(Marine Air & Cruisair) Norcold and Adler Barbour, but because I am the only dealer of my kind within a 100 mile radious of where I live, I have seen and serviced almost every brand of equipment that is out there. I do not claim to have "seen" every brand of equipment and every problem, but I'm close. I don't keep records of how many of what brands are out there and what the ratios are, but your comment about Ford and Chevy dealers is moot.
For compressor type refrigeration purposes, there have been two brands of compressors in use. The Sawafugi compressor and the Danfoss. Up until about two years ago Norcold used the Sawafugi compressors exclusively. EVERYONE else, at least with the brands that I have serviced, used the Danfoss, either the BD35 or the BD50, depending on the application. That would be Tundra, NovaKool, Vitrifrigo, IsoTherm, and there are some others. I don't have the entire list in front of me, and I'll admit that there may be some brands that I have not serviced. I do not claim to be an expert on everything out there and to have "Seen it all". Up until just a few years ago, Norcold was the mainstay for marine refrigerators for reasons unknown to me, but the Danfoss systems are starting to become more prevalent as this older equipment dies off. If I were forced to venture a guess at this point, I would say the split between the two compressors is probably close to equal. If you are going to demand proof of the validity of my comments, I would expect that you have a reasonable amount of experience in this field, servicing this type of equipment and are not simply drawing conclusions from reading blogs. So if you would care to share your refrigeration background with us, I'm sure a lot of interested members would be interested in hearing it. After all, when it comes to problem solving two informed opinions are much better than one, the key word here being "informed".
BTW, relative to this discussion, your comment about the difference in refrigerator control boards is also moot, since the design of neither Sawafugi or Danfoss has changed, at least as far as I know of.
