Hi,
nope not the same. Fully charge after the trip and disconnect, then fully charge again before the next trip. That is as close to what a solar system can do in your situation. But it is still not as good.
It is also better for the battery bank to run the jars all together rather than 'one at a time'. The reason is lower amps draw on the individual cells. Balanced wiring does need to be done.

Pianotuna, I agree that solar would be the way to go. But since I don't yet have that, I always recharge them fully at home before every use. I assume that this is roughly equivalent to having solar do the same job?
