Hi profdant139,
Because with solar when dry camping the panels provide part of the energy required to keep an RV running, while at the same time recharging the battery bank. That means the battery bank doesn't have to work so hard.
To understand why serial use of a battery is not as good as using a battery with double the capacity look up and read about the Peukert's Law.
Peukert's Law
"the capacity of a battery in terms of the rate at which it is discharged. As the rate increases, the battery's available capacity decreases."
The lighter the work load the less chance there is of failure. I really don't know anyone who has had a catastrophic battery failure.
