Converter Size and Generator Size, Etc

Some useful info here about choosing converters and what generator needed in the Q and As, plus some example specs. Although it is for boats, much of it also applies to RVs (they don't explain VA and power factor directly)

Also some interesting info about 12v and 24v with diagrams at the bottom. Also some notes on "converters" vs "power supplies"

One big thing to note is operating instructions for generator charging for warming up the gen before plugging in the load --I can confirm that with my Honda 3000 and big amp charger.

Anyway, nice to see that type of advice for boaters---now we want one for RVers! :)

  • Unless they've made an efficiency breakthrough, I don't believe the quoted power figures. For the 75 and 100 amp converters, they're claiming 93% efficiency, and for the 45 and 55 amp converters, 85%. Real-world efficiency for PD and WFCO converters is 80 to 85%. Why is the 75/100 amp efficiency better than the 45/55 amp efficiency? Have they factored in the power factor correction of the 75/100 amp models in a technically incorrect way? In any case, the power numbers are way better than the competition, making me suspicious of their accuracy.
