I recently eliminated my non working Inverter/Charger, and replaced with a New PD9260 Converter/Charger. I now want to add a stand alone Sine wave inverter. My coach has a factory sub panel for the inverter outlets. I'd like to power the converter off the same circuit that supplies the shore power to the transfer switch to the inverter sub panel. This should isolate the converter to shore power only. Does this appear to be an acceptable wiring plan?http://i.imgur.com/GlwdL2Em.jpg

Only if you add some type of circuit protection.

VERY SIMPLE.If your new inverter has a built in transfer switch (often called "pass through feature"), wire like this:Shore power in to main breaker box.Separate fuse in main breaker box for inverter INInverter OUT to sub-panel of only those things you want powered by inverter.If the new inverter does not have a built in transfer switch, you will need to add one. Wiring would be:Shore power in to main breaker box.Separate fuse in main breaker box to new ATSInverter OUT new ATSNew ATS to sub-panel of only those things you want powered by inverter.

Better would be a separate 15a breaker from the main panel. Any open slots?As shown it puts the #16 or #14 feed wire to the PD on a 30 amp circuit breaker.

Thanks Brett,That is exactly how I would wire the inverter. I'm thinking I could pick up the power for the converter off the same feed from the main panel. That wire is already in place, and convenient to the battery bank.

I agree with a breaker in the main panel.. This is how MY Rv is wired

Shore---Transfer switch
Generator----Transfer switch

transfer switch----Main-(Branch to)----Inverter---Sup--Branches to loads.

Thus if I have either Shore or Generator power.. inverter is in standby passing power to loads.. If I loose shore/generator which is fairly common here.

Water heater stops.. A/C's stop. TVs and Computers do not even blink.

If the OP watches satellite TV, that xfer switch may not be fast enough to keep the receiver from rebooting. That got pretty annoying so I hard-wired the entertainment center to be on inverter 24/7

Depending on how you wire it the transfer switch can go either way.

I like mine to default to inverter and switch when on utility power.

I prefer separate components. For the same reason you did not just replace the all-in-one.

All ATS's have a "default" primary source.

Do not see a significant difference between built in and separate ATS. Yes, a little more wiring with the separate one.

Depends on price difference of built in vs separate. I would pay something for the built in, but there would be a "pain threshold".

If no open breaker in the main breaker box, see if you can combine two low-amp circuits so the inverter can be on its own breaker.

Could be.. not heard of that. Be darn good to know up front!

I'd like to see that xfer switch in the inverter itself.

No open slots, Panel is above bed, routing new line would be a real pain. Maybe a 15-20A breaker before the Converter?
