The more and more I look around I find cheaper AGM batteries..
You're doing it right. I have been using AGM since 2009. While travelling this past March, my first one, a Grp 24 79AH Deka, failed @ 10.5V meaning it had a bad cell. In fact, in 2010, I converted to AGMs for starting service as well.
I replaced it with a Sam's Club 12V Grp 31 100AH for $200. It is a Johnson Controls battery.
I notice you leaning towards 6v AGMs, when in many cases, the 12V Grp 31 size is more readily available. There is nothing magic about 6V with AGMs as with wet Golf Cart 6Vs.
With the Deka brand, a pair of equal weight Grp 31s are 20AH more than an equal weight pair of 6vs; and at the same price.
Are the 6Vs the best fit? That would be the only reason for choosing 6V.
When you do decide to buy, find an order taker, not a salesman.
