Truth IS that to get the absolute best overall picture of the battery's health you need to check BOTH SG and voltage output under load.
It is common to have a deceptive no load voltage present and a bit less common to have a high SG with no ability to DELIVER a useable amount of current at the proper voltage because of mechanical problems with the internal connections or a high degree of sulfation that isn't flaking off yet.
