My Renogy DCDC which I haven’t installed yet says input amps are 1.3 x output amps so 60 amp draw for a 40 amp output charger.
That is a very conservative number seeing as they rate the efficiency as 90% ! The 60A has a maximum output of 750W. Even at 67% efficiency and 10V input that would be a maximum draw of about 120A. At 10V input that would be a maximum draw of about 95A.
The gauge of the wire between the alternator and the Renogy should be sized based on those numbers. I would install a 100A fuse as close as possible to the alternator.
