If the DC-DC draws 60 to make 40 so 20 is "wasted", and you can change that to 45 to make 40 so only 5 is "wasted", how does this help with charging the batteries? You still have the 40 max output.
I suppose you save some gas for the truck while driving when the alternator is not working so hard, don't know how much that would be.
Good point about heat. The Renogy unit needs ventilation. Interesting about the extra heat from boost conversion. Is that heat more than from buck conversion? MPPT doing 24-12 gets warm.
