Beware of "efficiency", which is Watts out vs Watts in. "Watts" is the smoke and mirrors here, where each side is a mix of voltage and amps, which is what the DC-DC monkeys with.
The DC-DC is not just a way to limit amps draw from the alternator. I use mine to enhance amps to the house side. I have the 20 amper on the 7-pin as input and I get 20 amps out instead of way less than that via straight 7-pin.
I also can match voltages with the solar controller so they add their amps.
With the 20 amps vs wimpy 7-pin, this would make supporting running a fridge off an inverter go better too while driving down the road.
