I was surprised at how much electricity my absorption fridge takes on 120VAC. Propane, it is reasonable (since just the control board is being used), but I'd probably say that a dorm fridge would likely use less power because the compressor isn't running all the time, so a dorm fridge might take a couple hundred watts, but once cold, it might only cycle a fraction of the time to maintain temperatures.
I am happy with how my absorption fridge works. It might use more electricity than a dorm fridge, but come generator quiet hours, it does a good job at keeping things cold.
