I have been monitoring my refrigertor lately in this cold weather. It works fine if ambient is above freezing, but will start to warm up when the temp approaches freezing.
Here is what is happening:
The weak solution of water and ammonia is freezing at 28° F
(strong solution freezes at approx. -40° F) the resulting blockage prevents circulation of the ammonia solution and can permanently damage the cooling unit.
To prevent this, use a Thermo-Cube (ON @ 35 / OFF @ 45) and a 60 Watt light bulb to provide the necessary heat. To prevent the heat from escaping, block off 2/3 of the lower vents.

I have no problem with mine even when ambient is well below zero F.
