Hi Bob,
Of course the solution to boondocking and residential fridge is solar panels.
If I did not have an absorption fridge I could just about run a residential from the panels I have now from say May 15 to Oct 15.
When I was just a weekend warrior, because of my solar and medium size battery bank I used to run the absorption fridge on the 120 volt setting. I could manage about 3 days.
I do plan to go from 256 watts to over 1000. Unfortunately, that won't happen this spring. I decided going to a pure sine wave inverter was a better idea--and I chose a brand new model from Magnum. What they don't tell you is, that to fully exploit what the inverter/charger can do, you must have a fancy dancy remote for it.
Now that the warranty has expired on my Yamaha generator I want to convert it to remote start.
I also wish to install a device to prevent my fridge from overheating when it is not level.
All of these modifications will cost about 3 grand. So, solar gets put on the back burner this year.
BTW in sixteen years of camping, until I went full time, I had only spent nights in about 60 campgrounds, in spite of using the RV for at least 60 nights per year. I drive on average 1500 kilometers per month in it.
