Day/night shade question...

I went nuts restringing our large side window day/night shade. Work on a king size bed. Follow restringing diagrams and instructions exactly. Look carefully at how stuff goes before taking apart. Four string (large) shades are more complicated. I bought restringing kit at Camping World. Use ingenuity and masking tape, etc. to hold sections together while you work. Be careful not to rip sections. If needed,use crazy glue. Take a break if you start tearing your hair or sweating a lot. I used thin stiff wire with eye bent in the end to grip string to thread new string through sections but there are long needles available.Leave enough surplus string for bottom ends. Side strings must be tight when finshed. There may be a service locally who will do this for you. Some RV'ers replace day/night shades with other types.

It slides so smoothly. My first concern was the size, worried it would cut more easily into the plastic grommet but it feels like there's so much less resistance when you open and close that I'm thinking now maybe it won't. Time will tell.

I think it is. It's the teflon covering.

Thanks Wiscampsin! Was finding so much info on stringing and none on hanging. Didn't realize there were little holes in the string anchors. The rubber bands made all the difference too. There is definitely a learning curve. Finally got 'em up. Have to say I do like the fishing line better than the day/night string. It's thinner, only about .45 mm. but really strong and it's easier to slide the shades. Many years ago when I was mtn biking a lot (and deficient in minerals I think as a result) I actually cracked a rib lifting up my night shade. Really awkward when you have to lean over the sofa to open a blind.

Also, was going to mention, in case anyone else has this problem. Under the middle rail (at the base of the night part of the shade (on shades where you pull the night shade down) there is what looks like one blade off a metal/plastic Venetian blind. It runs through the bottom the full width of the rail and has holes through which you run the string down into the day shade. On the two blinds I use the most the string broke through that clear plastic micro-grommet on that blade and started pulling inward, tearing the day shade a bit in the process. I looked everywhere -- no one sells them individually, not even "fixmyblinds.com" but I discovered that you can take some pliers and just rotate that little grommet around so it's facing the side of the shade instead. I did that and glued it in that position. Then I cut off one full pleat that had the most damage (of the day shade) and reattached it to that blade by just putting a little quick-drying glue along that blade and they look great. Like new. My rig is 12 years old and those two started tearing a few years ago.

Ok....so...got the fishing line. Just spent an hour trying to tie one of these suckers down and am pretty sure there's a circle of hell where people have to hang these 24/7. Is there some trick to this?

I bought some nylon cord at a fabric shop and it worked fine.
I also used a long needle about 6 inches long (the kind used
for sewing up a turkey cavity). Lay the blind on a table an close it
and you can thread the cord through with the needle. make sure you have
enough cord for the blind to open all the way.

Does it look weird?

No. This is heavy duty fishing line, not your trout stream stuff. It's very strong. Don't use monofilament -- hard to tie, and won't slide as nicely.
