Day/night shade question...

Do you have to use the day/night shade string? Can I find something at the hardware store that will work just as well? Moving next weekend and was hoping to restring and clean my blinds this weekend before I go. They're white.

Thanks!

  • Oh wow..interesting...and fishing line wouldn't get dirty. :) Does it look weird? I mostly just want to get started.

    Thanks for the responses...
  • I highly recommend fishing line. 85-pound test braided teflon covered dacron fishing line is very strong, very flexible, and slides very nicely. You can get enough to restring a hundred shades for about ten bucks at BassPro, or anywhere else. It is a much better product than the cords.
  • Drapery Store.

100 yard roll of .9mm just cost me with tax $18.90

  • You can use anything you want to, but the cord for shades is a woven easy-slide design for those shades. It is not expensive, and can be ordered via internet, along with instructions on replacing it. The woven outside helpw keep it from hanging, and inter cords provide strength.

After restring several of ours, I recommend to string for shades.
