Dealing with SAE roof connector in factory solar wiring

My Wolf Creek Truck camper has an SAE connector on the roof for wiring the solar panels. Man this looks like a leak waiting to happen. What have others done to replace this? yes I will be using ...

Goobered it over with self leveling sealant, and used heavier wire from the roof to the charge controller. The current rating of the SAE connector is pitiful, as was the wire size in the walls.
