By use of the dual voltage jack or IQ4 you can control the voltage of the IOTA to some extent.
The IQ4 turns it from a basic 13.6v charger into a four stage smart charger.
The dual voltage jack turns it from a 13.6v basic charger into a 14.2v charger. I am not sure I understand it correctly but I think it will stay at 14.2v until you disconnect or it destroys the battery.

On the other hand not everyone wants to babysit their batteries while charging. I prefer to allow the smart charger to do its thing while I enjoy other pursuits.
