Hi Mex,
I believe the "smart" converter BFL13 is using allows at least some "tweaking".MEXICOWANDERER wrote:
Automated chargers connected to a generator need an absolutely from the ground up different charging algorithm than a charger connected to public power.
Are the ANY smart chargers that can be "tweaked"? You know, adjust the bulk voltage limit and time spent at absorbsion before reverting to float?

My converter with the adjustable voltage is not quite what Mex means I think. I can set the intended absorption voltage.
The only "timer" is "natural" where the time spent in bulk (how long it takes to reach Vabs) is a function of charging rate wrt batt bank capacity. Higher charging rate means getting to Vabs sooner at a lower SOC (say 65%) than with a lower charging rate. say 90%.
Then as far as Mex's timed absorption period, my converter won't do that although the regular model without the adjustable voltage option, does. With mine you have to keep an eye on things and reduce the voltage yourself at a time you pick or else it will just stay at the last voltage setting you did (14.8 or whatever)
Smk mentioned he can set voltages and times to stay at them with his fancy solar controller. Fancy chargers that go with those more expensive inverter/ chargers may do that too, don't know.
