DEF PRICE for those diesels need it

FYI - Auto Zone in Tallahassee sells Blue DEF for $6.95/gal or $14.95/2.5 gal every day price Mercedes dealer is $11 for 1/2 gallon. I must admit the MB DEF comes in a great little bottle with a special top that will not spill and stops when full. Unfortunately, I'm told by the MB tech they are nor reusable. I ask for some empties when I was there (2013 Winnebago Era) and now have 4 empties to see if I gan reuse them or not. I do carry one of the 1/2 gal in my vehicle just in case.

  • Wanderer, the def has nothing to do with particulates. The dpf is what traps the soot and def is injected to reduce nox emmissions. A vehicle that uses def still has a dpf or diesel pariculate filter in long form.
  • I buy DEF in bulk at truck stops for $2.95 gal. Pour it in with WM $.99 funnel.

  • This isn't a joke so please do not treat it as such.

I tried to do a search on Google to find an article that explains in clear detail the DIFFERENCE in particulate emissions between a new diesel using ULSD and particulate filter versus the same engine without the particulate filter which requires DEF. If anyone out there can point me in the right direction to an article with DATA on it, meaning numbers, I would appreciate it. Thank You.
  • I have read about people refilling the bottle. We have a MB suv and i just pour it in using a funnel and watch and listen for when its full. On my GMC i add 3 gal when the dic says i have x amount of miles left
