Around here, we call that, "Going to Duluth by way of Mankato".
There is no good reason to contaminate the gas system with diesel fuel, despite the proximity. I'm assuming one or both vehicles move. A better solution would be to use a clean container and transfer in and out of that. Four six gallon fuel cans come to mind as does one of those 30 gallon sewer totes, especially if you have a fuel pump to aid in transfer.
