differences between similar Champion models?

Ok, I've done quite a bit of reading about the Champion Inverter 75531i 2800 watt generator. Actually quite impressive price point. What isn't clear to me is that Champion also has a black 100156 model with apparently the same specs. Anyone know the differences? Or is it just a Costco only version of the same generator.

Thanks, Dave
  • I received a response from Brian Downs at champion.

to paraphrase his response, the 100156 uses a cigarette lighter style 12vdc charging plug instead of the slanted plug style. Also the 100156 has rubber covers on the outlets, and are equiped with GFCI.

    Everything else internally are identical.

The only difference is the connections. The black one (which I own) has a cigarette type connector on it for accessories whereas the yellow one has the connectors that have a positive and negative for the accessories. I personally like the cigarette type better. Other than that, they are the same.

I also notice from the photos that the black one has plastic/rubber covers for the outlets, where the yellow ones do not.

A classic example of how manufacturers often confuse the issue for consumers by offering too many variations without making the distinctions clear. Even Honda is guilty of this by introducing the EU3000i Handi which is confused by many consumers with the considerably different EU3000iS. To further add to the confusion the Handi here in Canada is known as the EU3000iK. :? Sometimes I think K.I.S.S. would be the better option! :S

    Couldn't agree more.
