At home I have the Sola and the whiz/bang Kubota Kato. But on the road the power issues are worthy of a Steven King script. I built a small size dimension suppression system to protect the Megawatt and with the reasonable size and weight of the Samlex 300 I can provide guaranteed sweet power AC & DC. This is going to follow me to Guatemala. I have concerns that Banana Republic power might overwhelm conventional appliance protection. Reports of generator plant spindown cut-to-black may or may not irritate the Megawatt. Over/under voltage is one thing but how will the critter handle 45 Hz? I remember standing 2 feet from a Todd 75 amp charger and witnessimg an unplanned generator off line event. When the owner got the unit back on line (frozen converter vaporizer) the Todd had shown itself to be smoked. The Samlex tracks as I noted before but 8 volts span is manageable. For laughs I priced a replacement BiPAP in Guat City. $2100 US. Includes FedEx pay in advance 11 day wait to clear customs. Now I am soon to be a proud paranoid owner of a new View Sonic 27" monitor and I am praying it operates off a 12 volt brick. If not, the Samlex will have to do.
You may love my portable earth ground system. Everthing down here has tiled floorsset atop rebar poured concrete. You know those little adapter socket plugs? The metal tab on them is connected to the ground circuit. I made up a five foot length of silicone wire and soldered one end to the socket plug adapter
The other end connects to a marine bronze screw. The screw is fitted to a common car was sponge. The sponge gets soaked and lays on the floor. Lasts 2-3 days. Last week I proofed it. Direct line to ground short. Popped a 15-amp breaker. Works for me in a hotel room hookup. Allows the MOVs and TVRs access to earth ground.
