Dometic Fridge Not Cold On Gas

I have an old dometic that works well on electric but not on gas. I was just dry camping for 3 days. The fridge did not get cold, the freezer probably held about 40 degrees, the fridge was warm, the pilot stayed lit and the chimney was hot, and the propane light stayed lit on the panel, the flame never went out. I just got to a campsite today and plugged in the trailer, the freezer iced right up, and the fridge is getting cold. I cleaned the burner and the chimney before I left cause it was cutting out on propane, it doesn't do that anymore. So before I start throwing money at it, any ideas why it works on electric but not propane?

  • Try removing the burner orifice and soak it in Alcohol for a hour. Get a fresh high % bottle from Walmart. Then blow it out. Reinstall it. You should hear what I call a roar from the burner. Not as loud as a water heater. But should be able to hear it with your ear near vent.
  • The flame needs to be strong, steady and blue. Tip of flame should just be inside the stack opening. The flue baffle MUST be properly positioned over flame and with correct distance from flame in order to properly transfer the heat.

Low propane pressure......LP regulator not supply/maintaining correct line pressure (11" WC)
Flame disrupted due to bad burner assembly---slots rusted out, debris blocking slots, main orifice plugging
    Flue baffle dirty, wrong position
    Dirty stack
  • Clean the burner again also might need a new burner assembly. It is qlso possible tat the regulator is going bad and not supplying the correct pressure
