I will check that the flame goes into bypass and that the electric heater shuts off but I believe they both do. The knob does adjust the temperature, with right about freezing being the warmest it will get. It is totally empty right now and I understand that could effect it. I checked it this morning after it ran all night with outside temp in the low 50's high 40's. It was 30 degrees inside but that was near the fins, so the coldest place. My concern is that that is the warmest that i can get the fridge. If the outside temps get cooler I am concerned it will get even colder.
As many have stated tho maybe I should just put the beers or other harder to freeze items up top. Then keep my veggies in the door or other warmer areas. I assume the middle o the fridge is the warmest?
