Dometic NDR 1292 No Cooling

I have display lights and unit works on both gas and electric. Cooling unit is not blown (I have had 2 blow out and know the symptoms). I did accidently run the batteries down to at least 11.4 yesterday while having service. I am running generator now for batteries and have frig on gas (was told gas works faster..?). I will check freezer in a couple hours for signs of cooling.

I have one of those ARP units which is on and seems OK. I checked the only frig fuse I could reach and it is OK.

Would low voltage cause the cooling unit to go off line? Should I expect to see some signs of cooling in freezer in a couple hours?

Supposed to travel today and need frig to keep insulin and other essential stuff.

Any thoughts appreciated.

  • I spoke with Paul Unmack (the ARP guy) and he said his unit would not be affected until the voltage got very low, I think probably in the 9 volt range. He did point out (as some of you have) that the frig itself will go offline if the voltage drops too much which is what I likely experienced yesterday and last night.

I am running the generator to bring the battery voltage up and am running the frig on gas for at least 4 hours before I check to see if the freezer side is showing any signs of life.

  • Low 12 volt dc Voltage will not cause the Cooling unit to go "offline" or not cool. LOW dc voltage will cause the refer controls to NOT operate, but that threshold I usually below 10.5 volts. So, once your DC line voltage was over 12 volts that fixed any control problem but 11.4 the refer will operate as designed. The ONLY thing that may cause a problem is you added the ARP unit. THAT can possibly cause a 12 volt control shut down. You need to call ARP and tell them what you did from this post and ask if the ARP would affect your refer controls at 11.4 volts or lower. LP Gas and 120 Have the exact same Heating BTU's so LP will not work better/faster than 120. Doug
  • That fridge controls will continue to function down to 9.6V DC.

There are 2 fuses on the lower control board
A 3A ......DC Controls (which is OK cause you have display/functions)
A 5A ......AC Heater (which is OK if you can place in 'Auto' with 120V AC and it operates electric)

How long has fridge been on?
When FIRST turned on it will take 12 hrs to cool down.
First freezer compartment has to get COLD before food compartment can BEGIN cooling down.

IF it has been ON for over 12 hrs and freezer is NOT COLD/food compartment is not cooling down then you have an issue (Ventilation, air flow obstruction, bad cooling unit....items that affect BOTH heat sources)

    Otherwise
    Patience!
  • Yes, low voltage cold casue it to drop out. There's a min. V it needs.
