Dometic Oasis Elite power awning failure

I have an Oasis Elite door awning on our 2003 Dutch Star. When I push the extend button, all I hear is the motor running, but no awning extension. Likewise, once I manually extend the awning, pushing the retract button only results in the motor operating, but no awning movement. Before I remove the awning unit from the MH, any suggestions would be appreciated, both on the removal process and probable failure cause. I did a search on this issue, but no similar issue was found.

My 2005 Dutch Star AE Oasis Automatic door awning just quit working. It will extend, but not come in. Motor runs, clicking noise, but won't retract (come in)

First...the motor only "retracts" the awning. When the "open" is pressed, while the motor runs, the actual extension is from the two springs in the arms. This is done through a series of springs and ratchet parts in the left (looking at the unit) end of the tube the fabric rolls up on.

This is where the problem most probably is located. The inner workings of that assembly have failed. Small parts, that break easily. Replacing the entire "tube end cap" is required.

Temp fix, got on ladder, pushed it in, while holding remote "close" button. Then cable tie the thing shut. Or if you don't have cable ties, duct tape! But be aware if the tape loosens up the awning will spring open all the way.

    Here are your options:

    1. Depending on your mechanical and DIY abilities, you can remove the entire awning, take it apart (requires drilling some rivets), remove end cap assembly, replace with a new one (about $100 at PPL), reassemble unit, put it back on coach.

    2. Or you can take it to a repair facility and pay them to do it.

I don't know how much that would cost, as I have the DIY skills, tools and facility to repair it myself. Just waiting for the parts to arrive.

Here's some pictures showing the roller, end cap, and the broken bits and pieces that were in the end cap.

End cap removed from roller tube.

End cap dissembled showing broken bits & pieces that came out of cap.

End cap shaft also showing broken bits an pieces.

  • Your best option is to get a hold of FiammaUSA.com. They were the original manufacture for Dometic. Dometic will be of no help as usual with their branded products but FiammaUSA will help. Their number is 407-672-0091 and ask for Kevin.

I have the manual Oasis 970 model with Dometic name and part numbers all over it. But they have no spare parts and would not even make a suggestion where I could get them. When I talked with Kevin he said Dometic will not even talk to them. Well, I will never buy another Dometic product due to their attitude and poor customer service.

Fiamma is actually a company in Italy where the Oasis was made. They stand behind their products.
