Third Dometic 9100 Awning Failure

Today I returned home from having a THIRD motor put in my Dometic 9100 series awning. I extended it to dry out the awning and tried to retract it and the same problem occured....tink tink when the buttor is pushed. The first two times it failed, at least it was retracted, but now it is extended. This trip both the switch and the motor were replaced since Dometic said the swith might stick. Am I just the unlucky one or is there anyone who has similar experience? If so what was the final fix? What other things can cause the motor to fail. It's still under waranty, but is just a PIA to keep going back and getting it fixed. I also know that if I had a manual awning this would not have happened, so that doesn't need to be pointed out.

  • I've had no issues with ours since purchased last summer. I know there is a recall on the 9100, not sure for what, my dealer mentioned this a couple of months ago when I stopped in to buy a sun screen for it. Will have them check it next month. Good luck.
  • Has the torsional spring on the other end been adjusted or replaced? If not proper, it would cause extra motor load.
All the replacement work has been done by a certified Dometic dealer so the assumption I am making is that installation issues are not a consideration. The last two issue were identical to the first which was the factory installation.

  • I can tell you from owning 2 of these awnings that the very expensive motor is a weak link. I suggest that you have someone check to see if the return spring is wound to the correct amount of turns (varies on length of awning). Also never run the awning in and out several times in a row.....it will overheat the motor and eventually fail. It's like a starter motor on a car or truck, it meant to run for short intervals.

And don't get me started on the POS windsensor calibration (if you have one).....you already know what I'm talking about. rockin'
