You know, I get the feeling that everyone here is getting just a bit carried away. Measuring, trying to at least, voltages and impedances at varying temperatures, looking up the chimney, so to speak, and writing everyone but the pope.
My plan is to just wait till after the date of the remediation passes, go to my repair shop, which by the way is an authorized Dometic repair center and they know nothing about it, and have them order a kit and do the repair.
End of story. Mean time no high blood pressure or frazzled nerves.
I agree with you completely. A lot of folks here are throwing parts at this 'hoping' to resolve the issue. What's the failure rate? Something like .01 percent of 926877 units? That's 9269 units from 1997 to 2003 or about 1544 units a year on average or 128 units a month on average. Pretty small chances of being affected...
We mostly use our unit on AC for over 3 years now. It cools great, no yellow stuff. I would think something 'might' have happened by now. I'm still getting the 'fix' done, but just not losing any sleep over it.
Interesting thinking. I wonder how Dometic failures match against the Ford/Firestone failures of a while back.:B
