Do whatever you want. Perhaps you should pull the batteries out of your smoke alarms, too. As you say, there are so few fires it’s not worth bothering. And no one has been killed, yet, by Dometic refrigerator fires.
As for me, I don’t want to play Russian roulette with the lives of those I love. I want to understand what the problem is and how to minimize undue risk. Since Dometic has such a cavalier attitude about making corrections, I will try to find information wherever I can, evaluate it, make up my own mind, and do what I think is appropriate for the safety of my family.
I recently returned a couple of jars of peanut butter, too.
