I like the idea of a new element and some resistance to ensure that the wattage is maintained at or below max.

Anyone considered some sort of a constant voltage regulator(CVR) and/or a timed warmup of the element? The metal fatigue has to be a combination of on-road and other vibration plus the heating/cooling cycles. Slowing down the rate of heating to temperature has to increase the life of the coil.
