I don't know the temp values of the cut-off, but suspect anything over 200 deg F. to be abnormal. If one were to do this, the safest way would be to use a non-resetting type switch that opens the circuit at the desired temp. For safety reasons, it would be best to interrupt the 12vdc supply to refer. All you would have to do is rivet the switch to the sheet metal cowling and wire it in series with the 12vdc power supply for the refer. Keep in mind, this wouldn't make the refer safe, but would merely reduce the risk of fire in the event of an on-going over-temp. The possibility of igniting hydrogen would most likely be gone by the time the thermal cut-off opened the circuit.
Although I can't see a problem with a mod like this, it's best to let Dometic call the shots. I don't recommend anyone mess around altering anything. By changing or altering your refer, you may even be increasing your risk. Another thing to consider is non-factory approved alterations may limit or eliminate Dometic's liability in the event of a fire. Tim
