That makes sense. Since there is no longer any refrigerant circulating to carry the heat away from the element it just keeps getting hotter. Sort of like a furnace without airflow. One would think that some sort of thermal protection to cut off the flow of gas or electricity would be engineered into such a system. As they do on a furnace. On the upside, by reading this thread, I am learning a lot about absorption refrigerators.
