I noticed that the tubes on the rear do not look as clean as Jbarca's is there a paint or should I wipe them down with something. How can I do more maintenance on the rear to possibly lenghten its life?
Not much for you to do except wait for the recall and make sure the rear access area stays clear of debris like bird nests and the like. Occasionally you should open the lower access door, stick your head in and look toward the top. You should see daylight up high and use it to verify no debris or obstructions are up there either. Don't ever block off the access door vents with plastic, cardboard, screens, furnace filters or the like (I've seen all these things). One thing many people don't realize is tarps over the roof vent severely limit ventilation and put an extreme amount of additional stress on the boiler. Another good thing to do is install a baffle(s) and / or aux fan near the top of the refer compartment to direct the flow of air through the top cooling fins. This is particularly important if your top vent is a side vent (typically used when a refer is installed inside a slide out room). For the area below the top fins, there should be a baffle that directs all air flow through the fins & another curved baffle at the very top of the compartment if there is dead air space above the side vent. The curved baffle is basically used to direct flow to the outside so it doesn't rise to the top of the compartment and get stuck there. Very few manufacturers install these things at the factory. I usually do this after replacing refers. Here is an example of a side baffle I recently installed. The top curved baffle wasn't necessary due to the lack of dead air space and having a fan to aid in ventilation. Tim
