Tim, you did a very good job describing your understanding of the problem. I like your suggestions such as replacing the heater with a lower wattage one and using the DC heater holder instead of the AC one.
My question, do you have an idea on what the Dometic fix is? What will they do to reduce the potential for a fire if there is a leak?
It would appear to me that after the fix is made, the best thing to do is to run the unit on gas?
I have a replacement heater ordered from RVMobile.com. My reading on current heater is 38.3 ohms.
