Early in the recall, I posted about our 2001 unit "dying" in September, 2006, the day before we were to leave on an extended trip. The tube cracked and there was yellow, crusty substance all over the enclosure and there was the strong smell of ammonia - the exact description of a failed unit. After three consults, with each tech telling us it was almost as expensive to replace as repair, we decided to have the unit replaced. I contacted Dometic when I heard of the recall and they, initially, denied any reimbursement since the failure happened before the recall announcement. We had no more than 3-4 months of total (electric)use on the unit due to some health problems for two of the five years we owned the tt.
Fortunately for us, the rv tech still had our failed unit. He photographed the unit with the obvious results. I sent the pictures, a copy of our bill and a letter, certified, to Dometic last week. Today's mail brought a check for the full replacement cost - unit and labor. We are thrilled and recommend anyone having had the failure, do as we did. The timing couldn't have been better. I just retired and we're getting ready to start the camping/fishing season a little richer. (Maybe I'll look into that new LCD television.)
