Dometic refrig RM 2652 lower hinge broken.

Has anyone effectively repaired a sheared refrigerated section door lower bracket.

I have read of JB weld repairs and plan to reattach the loose part back using epoxy. An RV parts store stated the entire door must be replaced. The bracket is part of the door.

Thanks.

  • I agree regarding the pin. I used epoxy but the door is a puzzle. I started loosening the hinges then realized they appear to be screwed from the sides as well. As you say the unit would have to be withdrawn to access those screws. I removed the hinge between both doors. The inside then shifted causing a hole misalignment. It took several minutes and clamps to realign the holes to get those machine screws back in. Why machine screws? What a design!

OK so how did you do-it-yourselfers make it happen? I've yet to read any how to rehang the door.
  • The bottom corner piece that holds the pin in place broke off of my refer a couple of days ago. I JB welded the plastic piece back onto the door frame but I can't get the door back on because the door doesn't raise up enough to get the pin to drop into the metal bracket at the bottom.

It looks to me like I would have to pull the refer out a couple of inches from the cabinet and take the metal bracket off, put the door pin into the bracket and then screw the bracket back onto the refer. Am I missing some easy way to get the pin to drop into the metal bracket?
I read the link but nobody seemed to mention anything about getting the pin back in the bracket after gluing the plastic piece back together.
  • Thank you. I did do a refrigerator hinge/broken hinge etc search but found nothing in this forum.

I have seen some of the suggestions in your link. JB weld, kits, door replacement, bracket fabrication.

I have a plastic welder at home but hoped epoxy or another such fix would work. I'm currently in a campground and was trying for an "in the field" fix.

Again, thank you for your reply.

(Over 1 year ago for searching purposes) I read several threads about people fixing their broken hinges somehow. Haven't read lately about any. Also found out many install reinforced hinges, so that's what I out on before the hassle of fixing. Here is one of those threads that might be of help.
