double pane windows

In doing research before moving on to a new 5th wheel I was asking about double pane windows and a local dealer told me to forget them. He said they fail, meaning that they lose their integrity, and end up fogging up. I do lots of early season and late fall camping. Any discussion from individual's with double pane windows would be invited.

  • I'd be finding a different dealership if they have a salesman that feeds you this nonsense! He probably drinks his own bathwater.....

I am doing severe winter living in my TT with single pain windows. (Yes, I spelled it wrong intentionally)

In any kind of cooler weather, double pane is a much better choice. It is hard enough to keep an RV warm and if you buy a unit that is better equipped for your needs, you will be much more comfy.

I am going to upgrade mine to a more winter friendly unit. And it will have dual windows.

And if one fogs up, it is a very simple easy fix.
    Well worth having them.
  • Hi,

Mine are 10 years old and have traveled 85,000 miles. No problems.
  • A big discussion on this last week. I think it was about 8 or 9 to 1 in favor of the double paned windows.

  • What they said, good ones don't fail and are worth the $$$$
  • I would find another dealership. He is not selling quality trailers.

I have a 1997 Bounder built and taken delivery of it November 8, 1996, so it is well over 15 years old, with no problem in the dual pane windows. They are much quieter than the single pane windows, and better insulated for sure. No water collecting on the windows in the winter. It might not make to much of a difference in a trailer, but in a motorhome, the less noise inside while going down the freeway it is well worth the option cost of dual pane windows. Not having water on the inside of the windows anymore also make it worthwhile.

My older RV, I had to put a pillow near the window to keep the cold draft off my neck while watching a movie, while sitting on the dinette. Not having that problem with this RV.

  • I have a 2007 AF 990 with double pane windows. Would not have it any other way. No issues. Don't believe the salesman's BS.
  • Ours has them. Make a diff for sound-proofing from noise outside and also do some good with heating or air-conditioning but just how much I don't know. I would not have single pane windows, being used to the double pane. Been in trailers with single pane--you can tell.

Two of the windows did lose their seals right away but the trailer was still under warranty, so that got fixed. (whole windows were replaced) No trouble with any more in the eight years since.

Our first trailer had those black sort of windows but this one has clear. Much prefer the clear glass too.
