Keep an eye out for algae blooms. Just saw an article about Syracuse, NY, which gets much of its fresh water from Skaneatelas Lake. They do no filtering, add chlorine as needed, but with warmer lake temperatures, have been needing to increase the chlorine levels.
Algae Bloom
Blue-green algae (actually Cyanobacteria) is the algae to watch for -- toxic to drink and even to swim in. Blue-green algae is actually bacteria that cannot be removed by boiling, filtering or treating the water with camping-style filters
Blue-green algae can occur almost everywhere.
I know about the Blue Green algae. This lake has yet to have a growth. Also, since I have a holding tank, I would not suck to it if there is even a rumour to it.
