The oil doesn't seem to be a continuous problem. I've had it happen twice in 40 yrs. Drain the line, see if it happens again,.....most likely won't.
I see nothing wrong w/ the little plug idea if you think you need it.
Use a 10-32 in 1/8" thick material, it won't leak w/ even 100 lbs pressure.
Use a shop vac when drilling,.....or leave the propane on a bit :)
